Renault Kwid AMT
First in our list of the Upcoming Cars in India Under 4 lakhs is the Renault Kwid 1.0 L and AMT. Ever since its launch last year, the Renault Kwid has tasted tremendous success and helped the French car maker to fourth place in terms of overall domestic sales. This year, they will expand the Kwid range with the launch of a couple of new variants. These new variants, showcased at the Auto Expo in February, include the Kwid 1.0 L SCe and the Kwid AMT. Both variants will come with a new 1.0 L engine mated to a 5-speed MT or a 5-speed AMT. Launch should take place by the end of July 2016.

Tata Tiago AMT
Tata Motors is looking to capitalise on the success of the new Tiago hatchback by adding automatic variants to its lineup. The automatic transmission that will be mated to the 1.2 L petrol will be a 5-speed AMT unit. Specifications such as power and torque figures will remain the same. And, in all probability, mileage of the Tiago petrol will not take a hit with the addition of the AMT. Since the majority of the demand is for the petrol variants of the Tiago, the AMT will be available only with the 1.2 Petrol engine initially.

Tata Kite 5 (Tiago Compact Sedan)

The newly launched Known only by its ‘Kite 5‘ codename, the compact sedan will be nearly identical to the concept that was on display at the Auto Expo. It will be positioned below the Zest and will, in all probability, become the cheapest compact sedan on sale in India. Expect Tata to launch the car during the festive season this year at a starting price of just under 4 lacs.

New Chevrolet Beat
It is not secret that General Motors and Chevrolet have been struggling in India for some time now. However, the brand has now charted out a strategy in order to get back into the game. Spearheading its resurgence will be the new Beat that will arrive in showrooms by the end of this year or early next year. Based on the current model, the new Beat will be a thoroughly revised package and will be available in hatchback, crossover, and compact sedan forms. Expect prices to start a shade under 4 lacs.

Datsun Redi-GO
Datsun has turned up the heat in the small car space with the launch of the redi-GO. Priced at just 2.39 lacs, the redi-GO is cheaper than the Maruti Alto 800 and the Renault Kwid, with which its shares its platform, engine and floor space at Renault-Nissan’s manufacturing facility. The redi-GO offers striking looks and class leading ground clearance and fuel efficiency, which make it a worthy alternative to the Kwid and Alto 800.
